Travel back to the 9th century and delve into the Roman vestiges of Cardona Castle, a medieval site near Barcelona. This trip also includes visits to salt mines and local tapas and wine tasting.
Cardona & Montserrat Trip
We'll meet at your hotel in Barcelona at the scheduled time and take a bus to the municipality of Cardona. After 1 hour 30 minutes, we will arrive at this historic town known for the Salt Mountain Cultural Park and one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Spain.
Our first stop will be the Cardona mountain, a potassium salt mine covering over 100 hectares, significant worldwide. We will descend 86 meters to observe the ancient stalactites and stalagmites of salt and learn about the valley's industrial history.
Next, we will explore Cardona Castle, an 886 fortress showcasing Romanesque style with Gothic elements. The castle's location provides unique views of the Cardener river valley and the Saline valley.
The excursion includes a guided tour of Cardona's historic centre, a former trading village and market hub for travelers from southern France and the Pyrenees.
After touring Cardona, we will visit Montserrat, noted for its jagged peak, and the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, the site of the patron saint of Catalonia.
Finally, we will return to Barcelona, completing the tour after approximately 10 hours.
