Description
After meeting at the Teatro Petruzzelli at the scheduled time, we will depart from Bari for our day trip to Matera and Altamura.
Our first destination is Matera, a cave town recognized by Unesco for its ancient rock-cut cave. The town, located in a ravine, features cave houses that were inhabited until 1952, forming two districts known as Sassi. We will explore its winding cobbled streets and enjoy panoramic views of the Murgia hills.
After Matera, we will proceed to Altamura, where we will explore the historic centre and its cobbled streets. Altamura is known for its artisan bread, reputed to be the best in Italy.
In Altamura, you will have free time to eat and the option to taste this culinary specialty in local stone ovens.
We will reconvene to conclude our excursion back in Bari, arriving approximately 7 hours after the tour begins.
