Description
After meeting at the Teatro Petruzzelli at the indicated time, we'll depart Bari for our day trip to Matera and Altamura. Welcome to southern Italy!
Our first stop is Matera, known for its rock-cut cave dwellings. This town features an ancient rock-cut cave, recognized as the first UNESCO site in southern Italy.
Inhabitants lived in cave houses until 1952, creating two districts called Sassi. We'll explore its winding cobbled streets and enjoy the panoramic views of the Murgia hills.
Next, we’ll travel to Altamura, where we will experience the historic center and its cobbled streets. Altamura is known for its artisan bread, considered among the best in Italy.
You will have free time to eat and can sample this delicacy from local stone ovens.
Finally, we will reconvene to conclude the excursion to Matera and Altamura, arriving back in Bari 7 hours after the tour begins.
