Prepare to be amazed by the breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity along our hiking route through the Chicamocha Canyon. Over the course of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), you'll witness a genuine natural marvel up close.
Description
We'll meet at Barichara's main park and board a minibus to the village of Villanueva. The scenic trip will last about two hours.
Upon arriving at Villanueva, we will head towards Alto de Martha, the starting point for our hike through the Chicamocha Canyon.
The hike spans 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and passes through locations like Macaregua, Mesa de los Santos, and towns like Aratoca. Along the way, we'll reach the Rancho Alegre viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of the canyon.
At this viewpoint, we will take a short break and discuss the landscape's evolution over centuries. This area was nominated for the Natural Wonders of the World list.
We will immerse ourselves in the canyon's lush vegetation, observe its river, and look for the birds and monkeys residing in the National Park. Some sections feature cobblestones laid by German engineer Geo von Lengerke during colonial times.
Given the demanding nature of the 5-hour trek, we will pause for a picnic that includes a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and water.
With renewed energy, we'll continue to the town of Jordan, where our minibus will be waiting. After a total of 9 hours, we will conclude the activity back at our starting point in Barichara.
