Excursion to Ciénaga
Your adventure begins at 6 am when we collect you from your hotel in Barranquilla and board a minibus towards Ciénaga, located within the Magdalena department of Colombia. This charming town, situated 70 kilometers from Barranquilla, served as a backdrop for Gabriel García Márquez’s renowned novel, 100 Years of Solitude!
As we meander through the historic avenues of Ciénaga, we will discuss the town's intriguing history, particularly how it thrived economically in the early 20th century due to the banana trade. The journey will also take us to notable sites like the Plaza del Centenario Park, the Templete, and the Church of San Juan Bautista, among other significant monuments from that era.
Next, we'll venture to the Cordobita region to explore the Ciénaga volcano. You may be interested to learn that its thermal springs are known for their therapeutic effects. Here, you can indulge in a rejuvenating bath and a soothing mud massage—a delight you won't want to miss!
After a fulfilling day, we'll return to the minibus for our drive back to Barranquilla, arriving around 3 pm.
