Castano River Mines Private Trip

Pick-up is at 10 am from your hotel in Barreal in a 4x4 jeep, proceeding to an old gold mine north of Calingasta. The guide will explain the mining process used to extract gold.

The journey continues with an ascent to Timbirimbas hill in the 4x4, offering views of the Andes in the background. We will cross the Castaño River, enhancing the exploratory experience.

On reaching the other side, we will visit the Castaño Nuevo mines, active during the 1950s and 1960s, with over 800 houses built for miners and their families. The dike over the Castaño River gorge will also be observed, improving access to the mining area.

After a session on the mining history of San Juan, a picnic lunch, or picada de campo, will be enjoyed in nature. Post-lunch, we head back, taking in more Andean landscapes. A brief stop for a light snack will occur midway. The return to your hotel in Barreal is expected by 10 pm.
