Higüey & Sugar Cane Fields Safari

Sugar cane plantations, tobacco, tropical fruits, and one of the most colorful markets in the Dominican Republic await on safari of Higüey and the sugar cane fields. Let's go!

Safari Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel. We'll hop on a safari truck and head to the city of Higüey, which will take around 40 minutes.

Once we've arrived, we'll explore the traditional market of this town for 45 minutes, strolling through fruit, vegetable, and meat stalls before visiting a cigar factory to learn about its production.

Next, we'll continue our safari through the sugar cane plantations of Bayahibe. We will discuss the uses of sugar cane and how local communities live around the plantations, as well as the trapiche system that transforms sugar cane into rum.

We'll then visit a typical ranch deep in the Dominican jungle for lunch by the river, enjoying cocoa, manioc, tropical fruits, and Dominican salami, along with a drink choice of a soft drink, rum, or water.

Before heading back to La Romana, we'll take a boat ride along the river and have an opportunity to swim in the river.

Our day trip will conclude with a drop-off back at your hotel, after a total of 8.5 hours.
