Day Trip to Pedra do Altar

On this day trip to Pedra do Altar, we'll hike around this archaeological site featuring ancient rock art and visit the natural pools of Paraíba River.

Day Trip Details

We'll pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa at the designated time and drive to the starting point for a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 miles) hike surrounded by nature. The hiking trail leads to the Paraíba riverbed crossing the caatinga, the only biome that is 100% Brazilian. Along the way, we will visit archaeological sites where the Tupi Indians settled, seeing red ink inscriptions left by this tribe.

At the trail's end, we will reach Pedra do Altar, an imposing rock near waterfalls and natural ofurôs, small pools formed along the river. After taking time to relax by the waterfalls and pools, we will retrace our steps along the hiking trail to the site's restaurant, where you'll have free time for lunch if you wish.

After re-energizing, we will return to your hotel in João Pessoa, completing the trip 12 hours after pickup.
