Live an unforgettable cultural experience on this day trip to the Potiguara Indigenous Reserve, in Baia da Traiçao, where we'll learn about history and customs.
Day Trip Details
To explore one of the largest Indigenous populations in northeastern Brazil, the tour starts with a pickup from your hotel in João Pessoa. We will embark on a 2-hour and 15-minute drive to the Potiguara Indigenous Reserve, passing through Paraíba's coastline and green landscape while discussing the history and traditions of the Potiguara people, including the Indigenous Tupi language, dances, ceremonies, and art.
Initially, we will stop at the ruins of the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, built by Jesuits in the 17th century. We will uncover the history of the enslavement of Indigenous people and their forced conversion to Christianity. Next, we will visit the Gozo River, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and home to over 50 Indigenous families.
We'll then visit a village where you can eat if desired. Afterward, we will head to Aldeia São Francisco, the mother village, to experience the daily lives of Indigenous people and visit the Oca, the community space for meetings, celebrations, and dances.
Our next destination is the Enchanted Lake, where we will learn about its mystique and visit a local family's house. The day ends with interactions with the locals and an optional snack made of yuca and grated coconut. We will then return, concluding the tour with drop-off at your hotel after a total of 12 hours.
