Byblos & Monastery of Saint Maron
We will pick you up from your hotel in Beirut at 8:30 am and start our journey to the Monastery of Saint Maron in northern Lebanon. After a 1.5-hour drive along the Lebanese coastline, we will arrive at the monastery, located at an altitude of around 1200 metres in the Jbeil region. This rock-carved monastery is known as the Cave of the Monks and is home to the tomb of Saint Charbel, making it a significant pilgrimage site.
Next, we will visit the monastery of St. Joseph, where the tomb of St. Rafqa, a Lebanese Maronite nun beatified in 1985, is found. We will explore the religious culture of Lebanon at Kfifan, particularly at the monastery of St. Hardini, which houses the tomb of the Maronite saint Nimatullah Al-Hardini.
At 3 pm, a local restaurant will offer a delicious Lebanese meal. Afterward, we will head to Byblos, one of the oldest cities in the world. Key sites include the Roman amphitheatre, the temple of the obelisks, and various tombs of Phoenician kings. You will learn about the historical significance of this area.
Finally, enjoy one hour of free time to explore the streets of Byblos and its craft market before we return to Beirut around 6 pm.
