Full Itinerary of Your Visit

Begin your visit in the introduction room with a video by Judge Mathews on Crumlin Road Gaol's history. Navigate through key parts including a tunnel to the courthouse and a hologram guiding you through its significance. In the Gaol Circle, the Governor shares important areas and stories.

Walk through C-Wing to see recreated cells and holographic prisoners. Access video interviews with former inmates about life inside. For a deeper understanding, optional access to the condemned man's cell and hanging cells is available, where a hologram discusses executions.

Explore the grave site of executed prisoners, the matron’s house, and a display of a Westland Wessex helicopter.

History of the Crumlin Road Gaol

Opened in 1845, Crumlin Road Gaol was advanced for its time, detaining political figures during the Troubles, including Éamon de Valera and Bobby Sands. Built for up to 550 prisoners under "The Separate System," it saw 17 executions, with the last in 1961. After closing in 1996, it reopened in 2012 as a tourist attraction.

Opening Hours

Crumlin Road Gaol is open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm, with the last admission at 4 pm.
