Visit one of the most beautiful towns on the Costa del Azahar on this tour to Peniscola from Benicassim. You'll enjoy a guided tour of its old town, visit the Templar castle and discover why this town became a landmark for the Papacy.
Peniscola Tour
At 9 am we'll meet at the Tourist Office in Benicassim and depart for Peniscola by minibus. The journey will take 40 minutes.
Upon arrival, we will start a guided walking tour of the historic center. Our first stop is the old artillery park to view the facade of Peniscola Castle, built by the Knights Templar in the late thirteenth century.
Next, we will visit the interior of the castle and discuss its notable inhabitant: Pedro Martínez de Luna, Pope Luna, exploring his exile in Peniscola and his antipope status.
We will also see the 'bufador', a natural hole between the rocks and the sea, a popular tourist attraction. Then we will walk through the streets of Peniscola, appreciating buildings like the Casa de las Conchas and the church of Santa Maria. Our last stop will be the Sea Museum, where we will learn about the local maritime tradition.
We will return you to the meeting point in Benicassim by 2 pm, concluding the tour.
