Traiguera & Cervera del Maestre Guided Tour
Our journey begins at 8:45 am with a meeting at the Benicassim Tourist Office, followed by boarding the bus that will transport us to Traiguera. Here, we will step onto a property adorned with millennia-old olive groves and learn about the production process of the region's treasured 'liquid gold.'
As we stroll through the fields, we will take in the impressive sight of the Sinfo Olive Tree, regarded as one of the oldest specimens in Europe and awarded for being the finest monumental olive tree in 2018. Amidst the ageless olive trees, we will gain insights into their cultivation methods and participate in an olive oil tasting paired with traditional cold cuts.
Following our tasting experience, we will return to the bus and head to Cervera del Maestre. Our first stop here will be the Oil Mill Visitor Centre, where we will delve deeper into the cultural traditions tied to the region's olive production. After our visit, we will dedicate approximately an hour to explore Cervera del Maestre, which is renowned for its medieval castle. This stronghold, stemming from the Arab period, was constructed to guard against the advance of Christian forces during the Reconquista.
Finally, we will return to Traiguera to visit the Royal Sanctuary Virgen Fuente de la Salud. A site recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest, it uniquely holds the designation of 'Royal' within the entire province of Castellón. As we observe the various features of this complex, including the hostelry, the priests' residence, the kitchens, and the chapel, we will discuss its historical significance dating back to Charles V.
The excursion will conclude between 2:15 pm and 2:45 pm at our original meeting point.
