Apollonia + Ardenica Monastery Tour

On this excursion to Apollonia from Berat, we will explore one of the notable archaeological sites in Albania and the artifacts within the Byzantine monastery of Ardenica.

Apollonia + Ardenica Monastery Tour

At the scheduled time, we will meet in front of the Mangalemi Hotel in Berat. We will commence our excursion to Apollonia and the Ardenica Monastery. This tour includes scenic views and historical insights.

After a drive of approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, we will arrive at the Archaeological Park of Apollonia. The guided tour will unveil the history of this site, known as Little Athens.

During the visit, we will explore the city founded in 588 BC by Greek settlers. Key sites include the Hellenistic theatre, triumphal arch, agora, gymnasium, monument of Agonothetes, Odeon, library, and villas featuring mosaic floors.

Following the tour of the archaeological remains, a break will be taken for lunch. We will then proceed to the Monastery of Ardenica.

Upon arrival, we will visit the interior of this temple constructed in 1282 by Byzantine emperor Andronicus, including the church of St. Mary, the hermitage of St. Triadhe, and the mill. This site is recognized as one of the significant historical and religious monuments in Albania.

After eight hours of exploration, we will return to Berat.
