Berlin Automobile History & Culture Tour
We’ll meet at the entrance of Espresso House at Potsdamer Platz 10, near the site of the first automobile patent and under Europe’s first traffic lights. The tour begins with a discussion of the automobile's origins, its rapid rise, and how Potsdamer Platz became Germany's busiest intersection in the 1920s. We will also cover the area's devastation during WWII.
Afterward, we will visit a showroom that highlights the future of automotive technology, discussing topics like electrification, autonomous driving, and the emergence of new Asian car brands.
Following a 20-minute break, we will proceed to the outskirts of the city to explore AVUS, the ruins of a legendary racetrack and Germany's first motorway, associated with Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union cars of the 1930s, and the use of motor racing for propaganda by the Nazis.
We will conclude at an old tram workshop, showcasing a collection of classic cars from the early 20th century to the present day. An expert will guide us through this collection.
After 4 hours, we will end the tour at Beusselstraße S-Bahn Station.
