Berlin Automobile History & Culture Tour
At the specified time, we’ll meet at the entrance of Espresso House at Potsdamer Platz 10, a site significant for the first automobile patent and Europe's first traffic lights, making it an ideal starting point.
We will examine the roots of the automobile, its rapid rise, and Potsdamer Platz's history as Germany's busiest intersection in the 1920s. The impact of WWII bombings will also be discussed, highlighting Berlin’s challenging past.
We will visit a modern showroom that showcases the future of automotive technology, exploring topics such as electrification, autonomous driving, car-sharing, and the emergence of new Asian car brands in the context of Germany's automotive leadership.
Following a 20-minute break, we’ll travel to the outskirts to explore the AVUS, the ruins of a historic racetrack and Germany's first motorway, known for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union cars of the 1930s that raced at speeds exceeding 350 km/h (217 mph) and for its use by the Nazis for propaganda.
We will conclude our journey at an old tram workshop, now housing a remarkable collection of classic cars spanning from the early 20th century to today, guided by an expert.
The tour lasts 4 hours and ends at Beusselstraße S-Bahn Station.
