San Juan Chamula & Zinacantán Tour
At the specified time, a pick-up service will be provided from your hotel in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and we'll embark on our journey to San Juan Chamula.
Upon arrival in San Juan Chamula, observe the local residents, primarily the Tzotzil people, a group that is part of the Mayan culture. The tour includes a visit to the San Juan Bautista temple, a remarkable example of religious syncretism. Here, diverse celebrations take place, blending rituals and prayers, so be attentive to the intricate details within the church.
Next, the tour proceeds to the local cemetery, characterized by dry leaves atop wooden crosses, which signifies an ancestral tradition of the community that represents communication with the underworld.
The journey continues to Zinacantán, where we will visit the Church of San Sebastián Mártir to uncover the dark legends and ancestral rites associated with this site. Following this, you will have the opportunity to meet a local family that produces items using a backstrap loom, an engaging experience.
