Cruise & Visit to Grosse Island

At the specified time, we will meet at the Berthier-sur-Mer Marina. There, we will board a boat to sail on the St. Lawrence River towards Grosse-île.

Upon arrival, you will meet your Parc Canada certified tour guide. Grosse Island was a former quarantine station for immigrants arriving from Ireland who needed to be disinfected before entering the mainland.

Tragically, more than 7000 immigrants died here due to poor sanitary conditions. As you stroll through the island, you will gain insight into the lives of those who lived here. You can visit the church, the lighthouse, the cemetery, and the lazaretto, noted for its significance in the disinfection process.

After exploring the history of Grosse Island, we will return to the meeting point to conclude the day trip.
