Activity Overview
We will commence our guided tour of Biarritz at the main entrance of the Casino Barrière. Here, you'll be greeted with a stunning panoramic vista of the Atlantic Ocean.
Located adjacent to this opulent establishment, we will unveil the reasons why Biarritz is celebrated as one of Aquitaine's most prestigious coastal towns. This exploration is enriched by engaging stories and intriguing facts from the Belle Époque, a transformative period for the city between 1871 and 1914, mirrored by the excitement of the “Roaring Twenties.”
Beneath the casino, we will discover the Great Beach of Biarritz, a haven for surfers. Strolling along the promenade, we will journey back to the 17th and 18th centuries, a time marked by extraordinary pirate tales along the coastline.
At one end of this picturesque beach, we’ll pause before the stunning Hôtel du Palais. In front of its grand façade, we will delve into the captivating story of the union between Eugénie de Montijo and Napoleon III, the visionaries behind this iconic palace-hotel.
Continuing our exploration, we will proceed to the opposite end of the beach, where we will admire the breathtaking architecture of the church of Saint Eugénie, dedicated to the emperor's beloved wife.
Advancing along the coastal path, we will pass the Biarritz Aquarium before reaching the Rocher de la Vierge, or Rock of the Virgin. This impressive rock formation offers a view of the sea, featuring an intricate statue of a virgin. Accessing this viewpoint involves crossing a footbridge over the Atlantic, the sole entrance to the islet.
Concluding our hour and a half journey, we will end the tour at this striking location.
