Embark on a captivating journey to Getxo and Portugalete from Bilbao, where you will experience the majestic Bizkaia Suspension Bridge and stroll along both sides of the stunning Nervión estuary.

Description

Our adventure begins at the specified location, the puppy floral sculpture at the Guggenheim Museum, which serves as our starting point for the northern expedition from Bilbao.

Our first stop is the breathtaking Punta Galea viewpoint, offering spectacular vistas of the Bizkaia coastline—a sight that will leave a lasting impression!

From there, we will explore Getxo by traversing the right bank of the river, starting with the charming Las Arenas neighborhood. We will pass the historic Lezama-Leguizamón Palace before arriving at the Old Port of Algorta.

Next, we’ll make our way across the Bizkaia Suspension Bridge, diving into its fascinating history with an audio guide—an emblematic landmark of the area!

Our journey continues as we arrive in Portugalete, located on the left bank of the Nervión estuary. We will take some time to wander through its charming streets, which intersect with the Camino de Santiago, followed by a visit to the renowned Hanging Bridge of Bizkaia. This pedestrian bridge, a designated World Heritage Site, was built in the late 1800s to unify the banks of the estuary.

As our excursion comes to a close, we will head back to Bilbao, anticipating arrival at the original meeting point in approximately four hours from our start.
