Day Trip Details

If you're in Bilbao, and wish to explore the wine-producing regions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, we'll meet in the city center, next to the Guggenheim Museum, at the scheduled time. This trip includes visits to two historic wineries in Laguardia and Haro.

First, we'll travel to Haro, the wine capital of Rioja. At the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, we’ll learn about this prized product and tour the barrel room designed by Gustave Eiffel, along with the underground cellars. A wine tasting will conclude our visit.

Afterward, we’ll explore Haro's old town, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1975. Points of interest include the Bendaña Palace, the palace of the Counts of Haro, the town hall, and Plaza de la Paz Square.

Next, we’ll visit the medieval village of Laguardia, where we’ll stroll the cobblestone streets and enter a traditional winery to learn about the wine-producing process and sample their products. Free time will be provided for lunch at local restaurants.

After lunch, we’ll return to Bilbao, stopping in Elciego to admire the Marqués de Riscal Winery. The tour lasts approximately 8 hours, concluding back at the starting point.
