Day Trip Details

Meet in the centre of Bilbao, next to the Guggenheim Museum, to begin a trip to the wine-producing regions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The journey will take us to 2 hundred-year-old wineries in Laguardia and Haro.

The first stop will be Haro, the wine capital of Rioja. We will visit the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, where we will learn about wine production secrets, explore the barrel room designed by architect Gustave Eiffel, and the underground cellars. A delicious wine tasting will take place before departing.

After Haro, we'll explore the old town, an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1975. Key points of interest include the Bendaña Palace, the palace of the Counts of Haro, town hall, and Plaza de la Paz Square.

Next, we’ll head to the medieval village of Laguardia, where we will explore cobblestone streets and visit a traditional winery to learn about the wine-producing process and sample products.

Free time will be allotted in Laguardia for dining at local restaurants. Afterward, we will return to Bilbao, stopping at Elciego to see the Marqués de Riscal Winery, a symbol of Rioja Alavesa. The tour will conclude back at the starting point after 8 hours.
