Day Trip Details

From Bilbao, we'll meet at the designated time in the city center next to the Guggenheim Museum to begin our excursion to the wine-producing regions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The trip includes visits to two century-old wineries in Laguardia and Haro.

First, we travel to Haro, the wine capital. Our first stop is the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, where we will learn about the wine production secrets and tour the barrel room designed by Gustave Eiffel and the underground cellars. We will conclude the visit with a wine tasting.

Next, we'll explore Haro's old town, recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1975. Points of interest include the Bendaña Palace, the palace of the Counts of Haro, town hall, and Plaza de la Paz Square.

We will then proceed to the medieval village of Laguardia, wandering through its cobblestone streets. A visit to a traditional winery will provide insight into the winemaking process, including a tasting of the winery's products. Free time will be provided in Laguardia for lunch at local restaurants.

Before returning to Bilbao, we will stop in Elciego to admire the Marqués de Riscal Winery, a notable landmark of Rioja Alavesa. The tour concludes after 8 hours back at the starting point.
