San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Guernica + Mundaka Tour

On this trip to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and Mundaka, we'll depart from Bilbao to visit the Dragonstone from Game of Thrones and a historic town known in the surfing community.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the puppy floral sculpture at the Guggenheim Museum before heading north.

After approximately 30 minutes, we'll reach San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a key location on the Basque Coastline. Recognized as Dragonstone by Game of Thrones fans, we will climb 241 steps to the 10th-century hermitage atop a 79 metre (259 feet) rock.

From the viewpoint near the hermitage, we will enjoy views of the Bizkaia coastline. Following this, we will leave San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and drive past Cape Matxitxako and the town of Bermeo.

Our second stop will be in Mundaka, a fishing town known for surfing. We will walk to the harbour and the Church of Santa María, then visit the Urdaibai Estuary viewpoint for views of the mouth of the Oca River.

Next, we will head to Guernica to explore its history, including the Guernica tree and the story of the town's bombing during the Spanish Civil War, and view a mural of Picasso's painting.

We will conclude our journey returning to Bilbao, arriving back at the meeting point after about 6 hours.

Ticket to Gaztelugatxe

A free ticket is required to visit Gaztelugatxe on days with controlled access, while access is free on remaining days. The local tour provider will handle ticket bookings.
