Description
We will convene at the floral puppy sculpture near the Guggenheim Museum at the designated hour before heading north.
After approximately 30 minutes of travel, we will reach San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an iconic site along the Basque Coast. This location, familiar to fans of Game of Thrones as Dragonstone, requires us to ascend 241 steps leading to a 10th-century hermitage perched atop a striking 79-meter (259 feet) rock formation.
From the viewpoint located at the base of the hermitage, we will be treated to breathtaking panoramas of the Bizkaia coastline. After soaking in the scenery, we will depart from San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and continue our journey, passing along Cape Matxitxako and through the town of Bermeo.
Our next destination will be Mundaka, a quaint fishing village celebrated for its surfing allure. Here, we will stroll toward the harbor and visit the Church of Santa María. Additionally, we will venture to the Urdaibai Estuary viewpoint for a captivating view of the mouth of the Oca River as it converges with the Cantabrian Sea.
Subsequently, we will proceed to the village of Guernica to delve into the rich history of the Basque Country. We will head to the renowned Guernica tree to uncover the impactful narrative of this area, which suffered during the Spanish Civil War. Our exploration will also include a stop at a mural inspired by one of Picasso's works.
We will conclude our adventure with the return trip to Bilbao, arriving back at the meeting point after approximately 6 hours of exploration.
