San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Guernica + Mundaka Tour

On this trip to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe and Mundaka, we will depart from Bilbao to explore the Dragonstone from Game of Thrones and visit a historic town known for surfing.

Description

We'll meet at the puppy floral sculpture at the Guggenheim Museum to start our journey north. After approximately 30 minutes, we will reach San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, recognized as Dragonstone. Here, we will ascend 241 steps to the 10th-century hermitage situated on a 79 metre (259 feet) rock.

From the viewpoint near the hermitage, we will enjoy views of the Bizkaia coastline before continuing our journey past Cape Matxitxako and the town of Bermeo.

Our next stop will be in Mundaka, a fishing town known for its surfing. We will walk to the harbour and the Church of Santa María, and visit the Urdaibai Estuary viewpoint for views of the Oca River as it enters the Cantabrian Sea.

We will then visit Guernica to learn about the Basque Country's history, including the story of the town's bombing during the Spanish Civil War and a mural of a Picasso's painting.

Lastly, we will start our return to Bilbao, arriving back at the meeting point after approximately 6 hours.

To visit Gaztelugatxe on days with controlled access, a free ticket is necessary. The local tour provider is responsible for booking this ticket, while access is free on other days and outside controlled hours.
