Santo Domingo Day Trip

Your excursion will commence between 9 am and 10 am with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Boca Chica, followed by a scenic drive to the nation's historical capital.

Our first stop will be at Three Eyes National Park, where you can explore its renowned freshwater lake and fascinating cave formations. Next, we will pass by the Columbus Lighthouse, a notable attraction where the remains attributed to Christopher Columbus are reported to rest.

After a brief pause to take in the stunning neoclassical architecture of the National Palace, we will enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch featuring traditional Dominican cuisine, including staples such as rice, various meat stews, and beans.

Post-lunch, we will embark on a walking tour through the enchanting colonial area of Santo Domingo. This segment includes a visit to the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, recognized as the first cathedral established in the Americas. We will also stop at the Plaza de España, where you can marvel at the panoramic views overlooking the Ozama River and the distinguished Alcázar de Colón. Access inside this historic site will allow you to appreciate its beauty up close.

Our exploration will continue along the Via de Las Damas, the earliest street founded in Santo Domingo. Here, we will visit the National Pantheon, the final resting place of some of the nation's most significant individuals. This site visit will also include entry inside the monument. Following this, we will admire the Jesuit Church, which dates back to the early 18th century.

As we wander through the vibrant streets of the colonial center, you will encounter art exhibits, charming cafes, and artisanal craft stalls, including a visit to a Larimar and Amber shop-workshop. Here, you will learn about the significance of these semi-precious stones in the Dominican Republic. To conclude our day, we will journey to the boardwalk for an inspiring view of the Caribbean Sea surrounding the capital.

At this point, we will prepare for our return to Boca Chica, with an expected arrival time at your hotel around 5 pm.

Temporary Closures

Due to ongoing remodelling, the Alcazar de Colón is currently closed. In its place, we will substitute a visit to the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales), a significant cultural monument in Dominican history.
