Explore the historic centre of the Dominican Republic's capital on our Santo Domingo Day Trip from Boca Chica. You'll visit the lighthouse, the Alcazar de Colón, the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, and the Three Eyes Cave.
Santo Domingo Day Trip
Between 9 am and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Boca Chica and set off towards the historic capital.
The trip begins with a visit to the Three Eyes National Park to see its freshwater lake and cave. Next, we will pass by the Columbus Lighthouse, where Christopher Columbus's remains are said to lie.
We'll take a short break at the National Palace to admire its neoclassical façade, followed by a buffet lunch of Dominican delicacies at a local restaurant, which includes rice, meat stews, and beans.
After lunch, we will take a walking tour of the colonial area of Santo Domingo. This includes the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the Plaza de España with views of the Ozama River, and the Alcázar de Colón. We will also explore the Via de Las Damas, the first street in Santo Domingo, and visit the National Pantheon and the Jesuit Church.
The tour will continue through lively streets with painting exhibitions, cafes, and a Larimar and Amber shop-workshop. We'll finish with a view of the Caribbean Sea from the boardwalk before returning to Boca Chica, arriving at your hotel around 5 pm.
Temporary closures
The Alcazar de Colón will be closed for remodelling until further notice. We will substitute this visit with a tour of the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales).
