Explore the historic centre of the Dominican Republic's capital on our Santo Domingo Day Trip from Boca Chica. You'll visit the lighthouse, the Alcazar de Colón, the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor and the Three Eyes Cave.

Santo Domingo Day Trip

Between 9 am and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Boca Chica and head to the historic capital. The trip begins at the Three Eyes National Park, known for its freshwater lake and cave. We'll next visit the Columbus Lighthouse, where Christopher Columbus's remains are reported to be interred.

After a brief stop at the National Palace to take in its neoclassical style, we will enjoy a buffet lunch featuring traditional Dominican dishes such as rice, meat stews, and beans at a local restaurant. Following lunch, we will embark on a walking tour of the colonial area of Santo Domingo, including the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the first cathedral in the Americas, and the Plaza de España for views of the Ozama River and the Alcázar de Colón.

Our exploration continues along the Via de Las Damas, the first street in Santo Domingo, where we’ll visit the National Pantheon and observe the Jesuit Church facade. The tour will include a stroll through the colonial centre, featuring cafes and craft stalls, concluding at the Larimar and Amber shop-workshop to learn about these semi-precious stones. We’ll finish with views of the Caribbean Sea from the boardwalk.

The return journey to Boca Chica will begin, with an expected arrival at your hotel by around 5 pm.

The Alcazar de Colon is currently closed for renovations. During this period, we will visit the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales) instead.
