Tour Details
Jorge Eliécer Gaitán was a prominent political leader in the 1940s, coming from a background with a bookseller father and a schoolteacher mother. The tour begins at Plaza de la Perseverancia, where we will discuss his origins.
At the square, we will see the monument to Gaitán, known as the Caudillo del Pueblo, and enjoy a glass of chicha in the same place Gaitán frequented with friends.
The tour continues next to the Santamaría bullring, from where we will proceed to the Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. In front of the theater, we will listen to part of Gaitán's Peace Speech, given shortly before his assassination, and discuss the subsequent events known as Bogotazo.
