Tour Overview

As a prominent figure in Colombian politics during the 1940s and hailing from humble beginnings with a bookseller father and a schoolteacher mother, Gaitán's legacy is rich and compelling. Our tour begins at Plaza de la Perseverancia, where we will gather at the scheduled time to start our exploration of Bogotá.

In this square, we will encounter the monument to Gaitán, famously known as the Caudillo del Pueblo. While enjoying a glass of chicha in this historic gathering spot, we will discuss Gaitán's early life and political beginnings as he mingled with friends.

Next, we will proceed to the area adjacent to the Santamaría bullring and follow Gaitán's trajectory towards the Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. Here, we will listen to excerpts from his renowned Peace Speech, delivered shortly before his assassination. This poignant moment will be part of our visits to various significant sites around the city tied to Gaitán and the tumultuous event known as the Bogotazo.

Our journey will also take us to the illustrious Museum of Gold, a highlight of the city and a treasure trove of history. To culminate our tour, savor the rich flavors of Colombian coffee with a delightful tasting experience.

We will wrap up our 4.5-hour tour at the central Plaza de Bolívar, where we will toast to this historical exploration with a beer and present you with a backpack, symbolizing the spirit of protest. Until our next encounter!
