Tour Details
Jorge Eliécer Gaitán was a prominent Colombian political leader of the 1940s, born to a bookseller and a schoolteacher. The tour begins at Plaza de la Perseverancia, where we will gather at the scheduled time.
At the square, we will view the monument to Gaitán, also known as the Caudillo del Pueblo, and discuss his origins while enjoying a glass of chicha in his favorite hangout spot.
Next, we will proceed to the Santamaría bullring and then to the Teatro Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. There, we will listen to excerpts from the Peace Speech, which he delivered before his assassination. The discussion continues at various significant sites linked to Gaitán and the Bogotazo.
We will also visit the Museum of Gold, a principal city attraction. The tour concludes with a tasting of Colombian coffee, followed by a visit to the Plaza de Bolívar. After 4.5 hours, we will end the experience at El Bogotazo with a toast using beer, and each participant will receive a backpack as a symbol of protest. Until next time.
