On this free tour of La Candelaría, we'll discover the origins of Colombia while we explore the iconic streets of Bogotá and its colonial architecture.
Tour Details
We will meet at the intersection of Carrera 7 and Calle 11 to begin the tour of the historic neighbourhood of La Candelaría, where Bogotá was founded in 1538.
As we walk along the cobblestone streets, we will discuss the cultural heritage and architecture of this area, along with the stories behind the street names.
During the tour, we will pass notable museums such as the Museum of Independence - Casa del Florero and the House of Manuelita Sáenz, significant for Colombia's independence.
We will then visit Bolívar Square, the main square, and proceed along Calle 10, where key attractions are located. The tour includes stops at Iglesia de San Ignacio de Loyola, San Carlos Palace, Fundación Casa Rafael Pombo, and Museo Militar.
Next, we will reach the Museo de la Moneda, housing the Numismatic Collection since 1996, and then stop at the Plazoleta del Rosario, formerly known as Plaza de San Francisco. This site hosts many public and religious events.
We will conclude by visiting the Monument to Policarpa Salavarrieta, known as "La Pola", a heroine of Colombian independence, before finishing at the Chorro de Quevedo. The tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours.
