Did you know that Mozart travelled to Bologna to study music? On our Bologna music tour, we'll explore the old town and learn about the composers significant to Emilia Romagna's capital.

Bologna Music Tour

We will meet at the scheduled time in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana next to the Garisenda and Asinelli towers. From this iconic location, we will start our guided tour focusing on the history of music in Bologna.

The first stop will be Piazza Rossini, home to the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory, named after a prominent 18th-century musician who taught Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

We will share the fascinating story of Mozart's entrance exam to the Philharmonic Orchestra, discussing the various versions of this test and whether Father Martini assisted his pupil in passing.

Next, we will view notable buildings such as the theatre of Bologna, Palazzo Carrati, and the Archiginnasio, the site of the oldest university in the Western world. Discussions will include the organs in the Basilica of San Petronio and why several renowned composers like Chet Baker created melodies inspired by Bologna.

After 2 hours of sightseeing, we will conclude our music tour of Bologna in the Piazza della Mercanzia.
