Bologna Music Tour

At the scheduled time, we'll meet in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana next to the Garisenda and Asinelli towers. From this point, we'll start our guided tour and delve into the history of music in Bologna.

We'll head to Piazza Rossini, home of the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory, named after a notable 18th-century musician who taught Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

We will share the story of Mozart's entrance exam to the Philharmonic Orchestra, which has three different versions. The tour will also explore whether Father Martini assisted his pupil in passing the exam.

Next, we will observe the exterior of significant buildings such as the theatre of Bologna, Palazzo Carrati, and Archiginnasio, the seat of the oldest university in the Western world. We will discuss the organs in the Basilica of San Petronio and learn why composers like Chet Baker dedicated works to Bologna.

After 2 hours of sightseeing, we will conclude our music tour of Bologna in Piazza della Mercanzia.
