Did you know that Mozart travelled to Bologna to study music? On our Bologna music tour, we'll stroll through the old town and discover information about the composers associated with Emilia Romagna's capital.

Bologna Music Tour

At the scheduled time, we'll meet in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana next to the Garisenda and Asinelli towers. From this location, we'll commence our guided tour about the history of music in Bologna.

Our first stop will be Piazza Rossini, home to the Giovanni Battista Martini Conservatory, named after a notable 18th-century musician who taught Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

We will explore the story of Mozart's entrance exam to the Philharmonic Orchestra, highlighting the three different versions of the test. The tour will also cover whether Father Martini helped his pupil pass the exam.

Next, we'll see the exteriors of important sites such as the theatre of Bologna, Palazzo Carrati, and the Archiginnasio, the seat of the oldest university in the Western world. We will discuss the organs in the Basilica of San Petronio and the contributions of esteemed composers like Chet Baker who composed melodies inspired by Bologna.

After 2 hours of exploration, our music tour of Bologna will conclude in Piazza della Mercanzia.
