On this guided tour of the São Mateus cave, participants will explore geological formations and gain insights into the indigenous Kadiwéu people.
Guided Tour of the São Mateus Cave
The meeting point is at the entrance to the São Mateus cave, located 3.5 km (2.2 miles) from the center of Bonito.
Prior to entering the cave, there will be a visit to the Museum of Cultural History, showcasing artifacts from the Kadiwéu, the ancient inhabitants of Bonito. Information on the indigenous people of Brazil and the local flora and fauna of Mato Grosso do Sul will be provided.
Following the museum, a short walk will lead to the São Mateus grotto. Visitors will observe its stunning rock formations and learn about their formation over millions of years, including a stalagmite resembling the Tower of Pisa.
Facts regarding speleothems, the discovery of the cave, and stalagmite sizes will enhance understanding of this underground habitat.
The tour lasts for an hour and a half, concluding back at the starting point.

After making a reservation, participants will be contacted to confirm the activity's starting time, which will be scheduled between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm.
