Why Visit the Bassins des Lumiéres?

Make your way to Les Bassins des Lumières, an interactive art gallery in Bordeaux's former submarine base. Opened in the summer of 1999, it features immersive digital exhibitions dedicated to artists and contemporary themes. Les Bassins is the largest digital art centre in the world. Inside, you will find 4 massive basins with continuous digital exhibitions:

The Immersive Citerne: a 155 metre-squared (1,668 square feet) space with 7-metre (23-foot) high ceilings.The Cube: a 220 metre-squared (2,368 square feet), 8-metre (26-foot) high space for contemporary art and digital artists.Large Mooring Buoys: images from temporary exhibitions projected onto water.The Base Museum: explore the history of the submarine base.

Typically, it takes around an hour to experience the exhibitions.

L'Égypte des Pharaons: de Khéops à Ramsès II

This exhibition is focused on Ancient Egypt, allowing visits to the temples of Luxor and Abu Simbel, and the tombs of Tutankhamun and Nefertiti.

Les Orientalistes: Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme...

This exhibition showcases 19th-century works from DelaCroix, Ingres, and Gérôme, inspired by their travels to regions such as Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt.
