Why Visit the Bassins des Lumières?

Make your way to Les Bassins des Lumières to enter this unique, interactive art gallery located in Bordeaux's former submarine base. Opened in the summer of 1999, Les Bassins des Lumières is home to immersive digital exhibitions dedicated to great artists, contemporary creations, and major themes such as the conquest of space in comic strips. It is the largest digital art centre in the world.

Within Les Bassins, you'll find 4 massive basins with a continuous cycle of digital exhibitions:

The Immersive Citerne: a 155 square metre space with 7-metre high ceilings.The Cube: a 220 metre-squared space dedicated to contemporary immersive artists.Large Mooring Buoys: various images from temporary exhibitions projected onto the water.The Base Museum: explore the history of the old submarine base.

L'Égypte des Pharaons: de Khéops à Ramsès II

This exhibition is dedicated to the civilization of Ancient Egypt during the time of the pharaohs, showcasing its secrets and major sites.

Les Orientalistes: Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme...

This exhibition presents 19th-century works inspired by travels to Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt.
