Why Visit the Bassins des Lumières?

Make your way to Les Bassins des Lumières in Bordeaux's former submarine base. Opened in summer 1999, it features immersive digital exhibitions dedicated to the great artists of art history and contemporary themes, including space exploration and comic strips. Les Bassins is the largest digital art centre in the world.

Inside Les Bassins, you will find 4 massive basins with a continuous cycle of exhibitions:

The Immersive Citerne: 155 square metres (1,668 square feet) with 7-metre (23-foot) high ceilings.The Cube: 220 square metres (2,368 square feet) dedicated to contemporary immersive artists.Large Mooring Buoys: images from temporary exhibitions projected onto water.The Base Museum: explore the history of the former submarine base.

Typically, it takes around an hour to experience the exhibitions.

Ocean

Starting October 18, 2025, enjoy Ocean, An Immersion in the Underwater World. This exhibition showcases underwater life including reef fish, sea turtles, and dolphins.
