On this excursion to St. Anna Lake from Brasov, we'll explore the only volcanic lake in Eastern Europe and its surrounding landscapes.
St. Anna Lake Tour
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Brasov at the scheduled time for the excursion to St. Anna Lake. After a drive of 1.5-2 hours, we'll arrive at the lake and begin our walk in the Ciomatu Mountains of the Eastern Carpathians, at an elevation of 3,117 feet (950 meters)!
During the walk, we will discuss the unique characteristics of this location, formed in the crater of a volcano that erupted approximately 32,000 years ago. The lake is a popular destination in Transylvania, known for its beauty and local legends.
This is a protected area where you can observe carnivorous plants, miniature conifers, and various other species that are present only in the summer months.
The final stop will be at Balvanyos, where we will start a walking route to the "stinking caves" and the "bird cemetery." You will learn about the origin of these names during the tour.
We will return to Brasov after approximately 8-10 hours of exploration.
