Nested on the Danube river between Austria and Hungary, the capital of Slovakia has always been a place of turmoil between Austrians, Croats, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Serbs and Slovaks. The city itself was only baptized as Bratislava in 1919 and was formerly known with the Germanic name of Pressburg.

Today the city oozes style, culture and history, with its baroque architecture, music and art.

Come with us to know in detail the Coronation Church where Hungarian royalty were once crowned, to discover medieval walls of St. Michael's Gate and the many picturesque human-size sculptures scattered all over the Old Town.

This city will leave an impression, giving you many opportunities for some memorable pictures.

During the day you will learn about the variety of different names of the city in other languages, the importance of Danube and Morava rivers, the Roman Empire, the 5th century arrival of the Slavs and the 10th century annexation by Hungary.

Delve into the history of the city as a free royal town in the 15th century, learn about the Ottoman wars, the time when the city has become the capital of Hungary in the 16th century and the arrival of the Habsburg royal house.

Continue through the 17th century social and economic turmoil, the 18th century boom and rise of the Slovak national movement, the Peace of Pressburg treaty between Austria and France (Napoleonic wars), the World War I and the formation of Czechoslovakia, the World War II Nazi annexation, collaboration with Nazi Germany and allied bombing, the 1993’s founding of the Slovak Republic and the music of Slovakia.
