Day Trip Details
You'll be picked up in Bucharest in the morning and travel through rolling hills across the Danube to Veliko Tarnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria. Your guide will share stories about the city's historic centre as you admire its architecture. You'll visit Tsaravets Fortress, the medieval stronghold of the Bulgarian royals, where you can explore ancient walls and palatial chambers, and view significant religious sites like the Ascension Cathedral. You'll have an hour of free time for lunch in Veliko Tarnovo (not included). After lunch, the tour may continue to the city of Ruse, known for its Belle Époque architecture, or alternatively to the Basarabovo Monastery depending on traffic and religious festivals. The day concludes with a return to the pickup point in Bucharest after approximately 12 hours.
Itinerary Changes
Depending on traffic and religious festivities, the itinerary may include a visit to the Basarabovo Monastery instead of Ruse, offering a unique experience. Traffic may be slower than usual due to construction work at the border between Giurgiu and Ruse.
