Day Trip Details

After being picked up in Bucharest in the morning, you'll travel towards northern Bulgaria and arrive in Veliko Tarnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria. During the visit, you'll explore the city's historic centre with its remarkable architecture, while your guide shares stories from its past. You will visit the Tsaravets Fortress, which was once the residence of the Bulgarian royals. Highlights include the ancient walls, palace chambers, and essential religious buildings like the Ascension Cathedral. You will have an hour of free time for lunch in Veliko Tarnovo (not included). Following lunch, the tour may extend to the city of Ruse to admire its Belle Époque architecture. The day will conclude with a return trip to the pickup point in Bucharest, approximately 12 hours after departure.

Itinerary Changes

If traffic or religious festivities affect the schedule, the tour may instead visit the Basarabovo Monastery, the only monastery in Bulgaria carved into a cliff, offering a unique experience.
