Day Trip Details

After being picked up in Bucharest in the morning, you will travel through rolling hills and across the Danube to Veliko Tarnovo. This city, once the Medieval capital of Bulgaria, was a key European cultural center. Your guide will share stories about its historic center and its architecture.

You will visit Tsaravets Fortress, where you can explore the ancient walls, palace chambers, and important religious buildings like the Ascension Cathedral. Enjoy panoramic views of Veliko Tarnovo and have an hour of free time for lunch (not included) in the city.

Afterward, the tour will proceed to either the city of Ruse or Basarabovo Monastery, depending on traffic and religious festivities. Ruse features Belle Époque architecture, while the monastery offers a unique experience carved into a cliff. Following a full day of exploration, you will return to the pickup point in Bucharest approximately 12 hours later.

Depending on traffic and religious festivities, instead of visiting Ruse, we may visit the Basarabovo Monastery. Note that due to construction work, traffic between Giurgiu and Ruse may be slower than usual.
