Discover the legendary history of Veliko Tarnovo, a picturesque destination in northern Bulgaria. Experience this unique area from Bucharest.
Day Trip Details
Your day begins with a morning pickup in Bucharest, followed by a drive through rolling hills and across the Danube to Veliko Tarnovo. This city, once the Medieval capital of Bulgaria, is a significant cultural center from the Middle Ages. While exploring the city’s historic center, your guide will share insights into its rich past.
Visit Tsaravets Fortress, the medieval stronghold of Bulgarian royals, where you can explore the ancient walls, palace chambers, and religious sites like the Ascension Cathedral, along with enjoying panoramic views. You will have an hour for lunch in Veliko Tarnovo (not included).
Following your exploration, the tour may proceed to Ruse, known for its Belle Époque architecture, or, depending on conditions, to the Basarabovo Monastery, which is uniquely carved into a cliff. The day concludes with a return to Bucharest approximately 12 hours after the pickup.
Itinerary Changes
Traffic or religious festivities might lead to changes in the itinerary, potentially replacing a visit to Ruse with the Basarabovo Monastery.
Expect possible delays due to construction, particularly at the border between Giurgiu and Ruse.
