Discover the legendary history of Veliko Tarnovo, one of northern Bulgaria's most picturesque places to visit. Don't miss the opportunity to see this fascinating area of the world from Bucharest!

Day Trip Details

You'll be picked up in Bucharest in the morning and head through rolling hills across the Danube towards Veliko Tarnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria. Your guide will provide insights into the city's historical significance as you explore its historic centre. Visit the Tsaravets Fortress, once home to the Bulgarian royals, to see ancient walls, palace chambers, and religious buildings including the Ascension Cathedral. You will have an hour of free time for lunch in Veliko Tarnovo (not included).

Afterwards, the tour may continue to the city of Ruse, known for its Belle Époque architecture, or to the Basarabovo Monastery if circumstances warrant. The day concludes with a return to Bucharest, approximately 12 hours after departure.

Itinerary Changes

Depending on traffic and religious festivities, instead of visiting Ruse, a stop at the Basarabovo Monastery may be offered, providing a unique experience. Note that traffic at the border between Giurgiu and Ruse may be slower than usual due to construction work.

During booking, you'll see a drop-down box with various pickup points in Bucharest and pickup times. Choose the option nearest to your hotel. The indicated pickup time is approximate and may vary due to traffic and other factors.
