Day Trip Details
After being picked up in Bucharest in the morning, you'll travel through rolling hills and across the Danube to Veliko Tarnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria. Your guide will share stories about the city's historic centre as you admire its architecture.
Visit Tsaravets Fortress, the medieval stronghold once home to Bulgarian royals. Explore the remains of the ancient walls, palace chambers, and significant religious structures like the Ascension Cathedral, with panoramic views of Veliko Tarnavo. You'll have an hour of free time for lunch in the city (not included).
After lunch, the tour continues to either Ruse, known for its elegant Belle Époque architecture, or, depending on conditions, to Basarabovo Monastery, the only monastery in Bulgaria carved into a cliff, offering a unique experience.
The return to the pickup point in Bucharest will conclude the trip approximately 12 hours later.
