Day Trip Details

On this trip, you will be picked up in Bucharest in the morning and travel through northern Bulgaria to Veliko Tarnovo, the Medieval capital of Bulgaria. Your guide will provide insights into the city’s history as you explore its historic centre. You will visit Tsaravets Fortress, the former stronghold of Bulgarian royals, where you can see ancient walls, palace chambers, and important religious buildings like Ascension Cathedral. After this visit, you will have one hour of free time to have lunch in Veliko Tarnovo (not included).

Post-lunch, the tour may continue to the city of Ruse, known for its Belle Époque architecture, or to the Basarabovo Monastery, depending on traffic and festivities. The day concludes with a return to Bucharest approximately 12 hours after departure.

Itinerary Changes

Due to potential traffic issues or religious festivities, the itinerary may be adjusted to visit either Ruse or Basarabovo Monastery.

Note that traffic between Giurgiu and Ruse may be slower than usual due to construction work in the area.
