Known for its impossible bends in the mountains of Transylvania and Valaquia, you'll feel like you're in an action movie as you discover the famous Transfagarasan Road.

Description

We'll start the day by picking you up from your hotel in Bucarest at the indicated time. From there, we'll head to the Transfagarasan Road, built in the 70s by the Romanian armed forces to provide strategic access to the provinces of Transylvania and Valaquia.

Before setting out on the famous road, we'll stop at Curtea de Arges, home to one of the most beautiful monasteries in the country, which has long served as a burial ground for the Romanian royal family. Inside, we'll explore its most famous legend.

We'll travel through the spectacular bends in the Transfagarasan Road while climbing between the mountains, passing by the Vidraru Dam. Here, we'll take a short pause, allowing time for scenic photos.

As we continue, we'll reach the highest point of the Transfagarasan Road: Lake Balea, a glacial lake surrounded by mountains. Here, we'll learn about the surroundings and walk to the other side of the mountain for a panoramic view of the road. We have two hours for lunch at one of the restaurants in this popular spot, presenting another photo opportunity.

With our energy replenished, we'll return to Bucarest via the opposite side of the road, enabling us to admire the incredible scenery. Arrival at your hotel in the Romanian capital is scheduled 12 hours after pickup.

Road closures

Due to various sporting events, the Transfagarasan road may be partially or completely closed.
