Leave Budapest behind and set off on an 8-hour full-day trip to the Danube Bend. You’ll explore Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre, three scenic towns before returning to the capital.
Danube Bend Day Trip: Esztergom, Visegrád & Szentendre
Meet the tour close to the parliament building in Budapest and head north to Esztergom on a spacious coach. Esztergom was the capital of Hungary from the tenth to the thirteenth century and is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church, featuring the Esztergom Basilica. With your English-speaking guide, visit the basilica and enjoy views of the Danube River and south Slovakia from Castle Hill. The visit to Esztergom lasts about an hour.
The second stop is Visegrád, known for its medieval citadel and the summer palace of King Matthias Corvinus. You’ll see the ruins of Visegrád Castle and have about one hour for independent exploration.
After lunch, travel to Szentendre, known as the Artists’ Village. Join an hour-long guided walking tour of the Old Town, followed by free time to visit souvenir shops or museums.
On Saturdays, between May 1 and September 17, if there’s enough water in the Danube, we'll return to Budapest by boat; otherwise, we will return by land.
