Buenos Aires Bookstores Tour
Jorge Luis Borges once said: "I always imagined that paradise would be some kind of library." Buenos Aires, with 370 shops, has the highest number of bookstores per capita in the world. We will meet at 10 am next to the pyramid of Plaza de Mayo.
We will begin at La Librería de Ávila on Calle Adolfo Alsina, the oldest bookshop in Buenos Aires, dating back to the late 18th century. It features a literary café in the basement.
Next, we'll visit El Túnel bookstore on Avenida de Mayo, located near Café Tortoni, within the Palacio Vera, a building styled in Jugendstil.
We will then stop at Edipo Libros on Avenida Corrientes, an emblematic store that survived the literary prohibitions during the cultural genocide from 1976 to 1983 in Argentina.
At noon, we'll conclude the tour at El Ateneo Grand Splendid, recognized by The Guardian as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, housed in an old cinema-theater of the early 20th century.
