Buenos Aires Bookstores Tour
Jorge Luis Borges once said: "I always imagined that paradise would be some kind of library." Buenos Aires has the highest number of bookstores per capita in the world, with 370 shops. We'll meet at 10 am next to the famous pyramid of Plaza de Mayo.
Our first stop will be La Librería de Ávila on Calle Adolfo Alsina in Monserrat, the oldest bookshop in Buenos Aires, dating back to the late 18th century. The store features a traditional literary café in its basement.
Next, we'll visit the El Túnel bookstore on Avenida de Mayo, near the historic Café Tortoni, located on the first floor of Palacio Vera, decorated in Jugendstil style.
We will also stop at Edipo Libros on Avenida Corrientes, an emblematic store that survived the literary prohibitions during the cultural genocide from 1976 to 1983 in Argentina.
We will conclude the tour at noon at El Ateneo Grand Splendid, recognized as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world by The Guardian. This bookstore occupies an old cinema-theater from the early 20th century, forming a significant place for book lovers.
