Buenos Aires Domes Tour
The Buenos Aires of the 19th and 20th centuries was very prolific in monumental buildings crowned by domes. To explore this, we'll meet at 9 am next to the pyramid of Plaza de Mayo.
First, we'll walk to the Bencich Building to admire its two huge five-story domes, designed in 1927 by architect Eduardo Le Monnier. From the same intersection, we’ll view the exterior of the First National Bank of Boston, known as Banco de Boston, at the 'corner of the five domes.'
Next, we’ll proceed to the neighborhood of San Telmo to see the Casal de Catalunya, a neo-Gothic-Modernist building. Then, we’ll visit the Otto Wulff Building, showcasing domes typical of the Central European Art Nouveau variant called Jugendstil.
After learning the history of these buildings, we'll head to Avenida de Mayo to view the façades and domes of Hotel Chile and Palacio Barolo. We’ll also stop at the National Congress of Argentina to appreciate its 80-meter high dome.
Continuing on to Avenida Rivadavia, we'll explore two examples of the Art Nouveau style: Confitería del Molino and Casa de los Lirios.
At 11 am, we’ll conclude the tour next to the 'No Hay Sueños Imposibles' building. Before finishing, we’ll discuss this building's unique name!
