Why Visit Cáceres Co-Cathedral?

The Co-cathedral of Saint Mary has Romanesque origins dating back to the 13th century. It was rebuilt in the late Gothic style between the 16th and 17th centuries, with later Renaissance elements added, including the tower designed by Pedro Ybarra and the choir by Pedro Marquina in the mid-16th century. Visitors will learn the distinction between a Co-cathedral and a Cathedral, along with when it received its status, through an audio guide in English. Highlights include the Black Christ in the chapel of Los Blázquez and the stunning soaring ceilings and intricate stone carvings. The Bell Tower offers panoramic views of the old quarter of Cáceres, accessible via a spiral staircase.
