Why Visit Cáceres Co-Cathedral?
This site allows you to discover the Romanesque origin of the Co-cathedral of Saint Mary, initially built in the 13th century and later reconstructed in a late Gothic style between the 16th and 17th centuries. Renaissance elements were introduced, visible in the tower by Pedro Ybarra and the choir by Pedro Marquina.
During your visit, you will learn the difference between a Co-cathedral and a Cathedral, and the year it gained this status, aided by an audio guide in English. You will experience the beauty of the structure through its soaring ceilings and intricate stone carvings. A notable element is the Black Christ in the chapel of Los Blázquez, renowned for its significance.
For panoramic views of the old quarter of Cáceres, visit the Bell Tower by climbing a spiral staircase to reach the top.
