Reasons to Explore the Cáceres Co-Cathedral

Prepare to embark on an enlightening expedition back to the 13th century as you delve into the Romanesque roots of the Co-cathedral of Saint Mary. Situated at the very core of Cáceres, this site has undergone a transformative journey through time, first suffering destruction and subsequently being rebuilt in the late Gothic style during the 16th and 17th centuries. Additional elements of Renaissance design were integrated later, evident in the tower created by Pedro Ybarra and the choir crafted by Pedro Marquina during the mid-16th century.

Curious about the distinction between a Co-cathedral and a Cathedral, and when this designation was conferred? Your visit will reveal intriguing insights and key attributes of this sacred venue, enhanced by an audio guide in English. As you stroll beneath its elevated ceilings, marvel at the meticulously carved stone decorations that adorn the building.

Among the noteworthy artifacts is the renowned Black Christ, found in the chapel of Los Blázquez. You'll learn about its significance and the reasons behind its fame!

Additionally, don't miss the chance to relish remarkable views over the historic center of Cáceres from the Bell Tower. To access this vantage point, a climb up a spiral staircase awaits you.
