Why visit Cadillac Castle?
Just a 40-minute drive from Bordeaux, Cadillac Castle is one of the notable ducal fortresses in the Gironde region. The castle's history dates back to the late 16th century, with construction beginning during Henry IV's reign and continuing under Louis XIII.
The castle features grand fireplaces, intricate decorations, tapestries, and vibrant ceilings. During your tour, learn about the Gascony cadets, ancestors of the Musketeers. The fortress served as a women's prison from the 19th century until 1950, with spaces available for exploration.
Opening hours
The Ducal Castle of Cadillac welcomes visitors:
October 2 to May 28: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 12:30 pm, and 2 pm to 5:30 pmMay 29 to October 1: Monday to Sunday, 10 am to 1:15 pm, and 2 pm to 6 pm
Last entry is allowed up to 45 minutes before closing. On December 24 and 31, the closing time is at 4 pm. Operating hours may change without prior notice.
