Why Visit Mémorial de Caen?
Located near the beaches of the Normandy Landings, the Mémorial de Caen features original objects from the Second World War, including vehicles, weapons, uniforms, propaganda posters, photographs, and maps. Well-known sections focus on genocides and mass violence as well as the Resistance and Liberation.
The D-Day exhibition commemorates the Normandy Beach Landings on the 6th of June 1944, detailing the success achieved on beaches such as Utah, Omaha, Sword, Gold, and Juno Beach.
Other notable exhibits include General Wilhelm Richter's underground bunker and a section on the Cold War's Eastern and Western Blocs. The 20th-century immersive room features a 19-minute film in a 360-degree room with 11 screens, covering Europe's history from 1900 to 1991.
