Day Trip Details
At 6:30 AM, we will depart from Cairo to Alexandria, Egypt's key Mediterranean city.
Our tour begins at the Qaitibay Citadel, constructed in the 15th century by Sultan Qaitibay, where the historic Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood and was later destroyed by earthquakes.
Next, we will visit the Kom el Shoqafa Catacombs, featuring artwork that illustrates the blend of Egyptian and Greco-Roman cultures across three levels, including tunnels and galleries of the necropolis. Nearby, we will find Pompey's Pillar, the location of the former temple dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian God Serapis.
A lunch break will be included in central Alexandria, featuring a menu with fish and seafood rice. We will then visit The New Alexandria Library, inaugurated in 2002 as a tribute to the ancient library from the 3rd century BC. This modern cultural space is significant in the Eastern Mediterranean.
We will return to the hotels in Cairo after 12 hours.
The New Alexandria Library
Note that the New Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays and open only in the morning on Saturdays, from 10 AM to 2 PM. On these days, we will visit the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque and Ledge instead.
The official guided visit to the New Alexandria Library is available in English, French, and Arabic.
Children under 12 may not visit the library but can explore the Children's Museum.
