Excursion to Alexandria
At 6:30 AM, we will depart from Cairo to Alexandria, Egypt's significant Mediterranean city.
The tour starts at the Alexandria port, visiting the Qaitibay Citadel, built in the 15th century by Sultan Qaitibay, where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. The lighthouse was destroyed by earthquakes, and its remains were used for the citadel's construction.
Next, we will go to the Kom el Shoqafa Catacombs, showcasing relief artwork that combines Egyptian and Greco-Roman culture. This site features three levels with passages, tunnels, and galleries where the necropolis tombs are located. Nearby is Pompey's Pillar, located at the site of a former temple dedicated to the God Serapis.
Lunch will be served in central Alexandria, featuring fish and seafood rice. In the evening, we will visit The New Alexandria Library, which honors the ancient library from the 3rd century BC. This modern library, reopened in 2002, is a cultural hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Finally, we will return to the hotels in Cairo 12 hours later.
The New Alexandria Library
Please note that the New Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays and Saturdays. On these days, we will visit the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque and Ledge instead.
The official guided visit to the New Alexandria Library is available in English, French, and Arabic.
Children under 12 cannot enter the New Alexandria Library but may visit the Children's Museum.
