Greeks, Romans... the cultural legacy of Alexandria can be seen in its monuments and archaeological sites. Immerse yourself in the past with this excursion from Cairo.

Excursion to Alexandria

At 6:30 AM we'll leave from Cairo towards Alexandria, the most important Mediterranean city in Egypt.

We'll begin our tour of the Alexandria port by visiting the Qaitibay Citadel, constructed in the 15th century by Sultan Qaitibay, where the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. The lighthouse was destroyed by earthquakes, and its remains were used to build the citadel.

Next, we will visit the Kom el Shoqafa Catacombs, notable for their relief artwork showing the fusion of Egyptian and Greco-Roman culture. We'll explore its three levels, passages, tunnels, and galleries. Near the catacombs is Pompey's Pillar, located where the temple dedicated to the Greco-Egyptian God Serapis once stood.

We'll enjoy lunch in the center of Alexandria featuring fish and seafood rice. In the evening, we will visit The New Alexandria Library, built as a homage to the ancient library that was destroyed around 48 BC. This library, reinaugurated in 2002, is a major cultural center in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Finally, late in the evening, we will return to hotels in Cairo, completing our tour after 12 hours.

The New Alexandria Library

Please note that the New Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays and Saturdays. On these days, we will instead visit the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque and Ledge.

The official guided visit to the New Alexandria Library is available in English, French, and Arabic.

Children under 12 cannot visit the library; they may go to the Children's Museum instead.
