Guided Tour of Cajamarca
We will pick you up at your hotel in downtown Cajamarca at the agreed time for this guided tour. Cajamarca is known for hosting the annual Peruvian Carnival, one of Peru's most celebrated holidays.
The tour will begin at the Plaza de Armas, the site where the Inca chief Atahualpa was captured by the Spaniards. Here, we will visit the Santa Catalina cathedral and the San Francisco church, featuring facades carved in volcanic rock.
Next, we will walk to the monumental complex of Belen, which consists of the Men's Hospital, Women's Hospital, and a church. We will then see the Cuarto del Rescate (Rescue Room), where notable Incan remains are preserved. This location is where the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro held Atahualpa before his execution, and we will learn about Atahualpa's last days in captivity.
Our final stop will be at the viewpoint on Santa Apolonia hill, providing a view of the city and the Rumi Tiana valley. This site features the famous Silla del Inca, believed to be the seat of Atahualpa.
After three and a half hours of history and sightseeing, we will return to your hotel in Cajamarca.
