Explore the north of Peru with this excursion to Lake Sausacocha and the ruins of Wiracochapampa, where you'll learn all the stories and legends of these emblematic places.

Lake Sausacocha & Wiracochapampa Excursion

The tour starts with a pickup at 5 am at your hotel in Cajamarca. We will travel for three hours across the plains of northern Peru to reach Cajabamba, where there will be a break for breakfast on your own. Next, we'll continue to Lake Sausacocha.

Upon arrival, we will visit this important wetland area surrounded by low hills. The name Sausacocha originates from the Inca term "sawsaqucha," meaning "lagoon that never dries up."

Here, an hour and a half break for lunch will be observed, allowing time to explore the lagoon and take a boat ride. Afterward, our next destination is the archaeological complex of Wiracochapampa, where we will learn about its legends.

The ruins belong to the Wari civilization, which inhabited a significant part of Peru, previously thought to be Inca. During the visit, we will see trapezoidal constructions with towering walls up to 20 meters high, as well as carefully planned squares and patios.

After the tour, we will return to Cajamarca, arriving at your hotel around 9:30 pm.
