If you want to discover the other Machu Picchu of Peru, don't miss this excursion to the archaeological complex of Marcahuamachuco from Cajamarca.
Marcahuamachuco Tour
The tour begins with a 5 am pickup at your hotel in Cajamarca. After a three-hour drive, we will arrive in Cajabamba, where you can have breakfast on your own. Then, we will head to the archaeological site of Marcahuamachuco, located at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet) above sea level.
Marcahuamachuco is known as the Machu Picchu of the north. Construction started in 500 BC, serving as a significant commercial center during pre-Inca times. The visit includes touring three hills that make up the complex. The first stop is Cerro del Castillo, showcasing a fortress surrounded by galleries.
Next, we will explore Cerro de las Monjas and its seven circular buildings. Following this, we will visit Cerro de los Corrales, which includes the remains of a castle and other structures that reveal the area's role as a political, economic, and military center.
A lunch break will be provided, including a sandwich, fruit, and a drink. We will begin our return to Cajamarca at 5 pm, arriving at your hotel by 9 pm.
