If you want to discover the other Machu Picchu of Peru, don't miss this excursion to the archaeological complex of Marcahuamachuco from Cajamarca.

Marcahuamachuco Tour

The tour starts with a 5 am pickup at your hotel in Cajamarca. Following a three-hour drive, we will arrive in Cajabamba for breakfast on your own. We will then proceed to the archaeological site of Marcahuamachuco, located at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet).

Marcahuamachuco, known as the Machu Picchu of the north, was established around 500 BC and served as a major commercial center in pre-Inca times. The visit includes a tour of the three hills that make up the complex. We will first explore the Cerro del Castillo, featuring an impressive fortress surrounded by galleries.

Next, we will move to the Cerro de las Monjas with its seven circular buildings, followed by the Cerro de los Corrales, where we will see remains of a castle and other significant structures, learning about this political, economic, and military centre.

At the end of the tour, a lunch break will be provided, including a sandwich, fruit, and a drink. We will then leave for Cajamarca at 5 pm, arriving at your hotel by 9 pm.
