Marcahuamachuco Tour
At the scheduled departure, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Cajamarca. Following a scenic drive of approximately three hours, we will reach Cajabamba, where you'll have time for breakfast at your leisure. From there, we will continue our journey towards the archaeological site of Marcahuamachuco.
Known as the Machu Picchu of the north, Marcahuamachuco sits at an altitude of 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) above sea level, surpassing the height of the famous Machu Picchu ruins at 2,430 meters (7972 feet). This historic site, which dates back to 500 BC, played a significant role in pre-Inca times, likely serving as a vital commercial hub in the northern part of Peru.
Our visit will encompass the exploration of the three prominent hills that form the complex. We will first visit the Cerro del Castillo, home to a striking fortress surrounded by intricate galleries.
Concluding our tour, you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at a nearby local restaurant before we make our way back to the starting point, where we will conclude this enlightening experience, having spent a total of 16 hours immersed in history.
