On this private tour, you will explore Ollagüe and the Alto del Loa Salt Flats. The tour commences with a pickup from your hotel in Calama, followed by a 190-kilometer (118-mile) drive featuring views of the San Pedro, San Pablo, and Ollagüe volcanoes.
The first stop will be at the Ascotán salt flat, where you will observe gypsum and halite formations and lagoons that are fed during the rainy seasons. Next, you will visit the Carcote Salt Flat, which includes small lakes, notably Laguna Verde.
At approximately 2:30 pm, the tour will include a visit to the former sugar refinery of Buenaventura, significant for its role in the town's economy due to the nearby salt flats.
Before concluding the tour, there will be a pause in Ollagüe for lunch at local restaurants. This rural village was founded in 1979 and is located at an elevation of 3,660 meters (12,007 feet) above sea level.
The tour will conclude with a return to your hotel, approximately 10 to 11 hours after the initial pickup.
