While in Calama, seize the opportunity to embark on an excursion to the Devil's Bridge, Chiu Chiu, and Ayquina. Uncover the most notable tourist sites of Alto del Loa!

Description

Your adventure will commence with a pickup from your accommodation in Calama at the designated time, setting the stage for an engaging tour through Alto del Loa. Are you prepared to explore the Atacama Desert?

After boarding our 4x4 vehicle, we will drive towards Santa Margarita, situated approximately 21 kilometers (13.04 miles) southeast of Calama. Here, we’ll witness the breathtaking marble quarries and the majestic Loa River, recognized as the longest river in Chile.

Our next destination will be Ayquina, a picturesque town perched at around 3000 meters (9842.51 ft.) above sea level, nestled along a creek flowing into the Salado River. In this captivating location, we’ll delve into the cultural heritage of the Likanatay indigenous community, exploring their rich traditions and religious festivities, including tributes to the Virgin of Guadalupe.

By 1:30 pm, we will reach the Devil's Bridge, featuring a remarkable rock fissure that connects the Andes with the desert. This stunning natural phenomenon is certainly worth observing! Our following stop will be the Inka Coya Lagoon, infamously known as the Lagoon of the Incas. According to legend, it was here that the romance between a princess and the Inca named Atahualpa Yupanqui unfolded.

At 3 pm, we will arrive at San Francisco de Chiu Chiu, where you’ll have an hour of leisure to enjoy a meal. Found within an oasis in the Antofagasta region, this area is part of the historical Inca Trail. An interesting fact: the church here is the oldest in Chile!

Your journey around Calama will conclude after a rewarding 10-hour experience together.
