Ayacucho Artisan Tour
In this Ayacucho artisan tour, you'll discover the folk art culture of Ayacucho and the Lurin Valley while observing artisans at work in their workshops.
Pickup is at 8 am from your hotel in Callao, proceeding to Lurin Valley, located in the province of Lima. En route, we will pass through Pantanos de la Villa, a wetland area inhabited by migratory birds. The artisan tour begins with an overview of Lurin’s demographics, noting that many residents arrived from Ayacucho fleeing terrorism in the 1980s.
Ayacucho is recognized for its diverse expressions of popular art, earning it the title of capital of Peruvian handicrafts. Many of these ancestral techniques have been brought to Lurin Valley, which now stands as a significant site for Ayacucho handicrafts.
During the tour, we will visit two traditional pottery workshops to observe artisans crafting typical clay figurines. Subsequently, we will visit a tapestry workshop to learn about the creation of tapestries, embroideries, and belts using natural fibers.
The tour includes a typical Peruvian Creole lunch featuring two courses and a drink. You may choose from a starter of salad, potatoes, or beans with corn and a main course of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.
Following lunch, the return trip to Callao will conclude with drop-off at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
