Ayacucho Artisan Tour

Your journey begins with a pick-up at 8 am from your accommodation in Callao, setting off towards the Lurin Valley, a notable district within the Lima province.

As we travel, we'll pass through the Pantanos de la Villa, a significant wetland area that serves as a habitat for various migratory birds. Following this, our artisan tour will kick off with insights into Lurin’s demographics. It's interesting to note that much of the local population migrated from Ayacucho, fleeing the terrorism of the 1980s.

Ayacucho is renowned for its diverse and rich folk art, earning it the title of the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. The ancestral techniques brought by immigrants have turned the Lurin Valley into a notable center for Ayacucho's artisanal creations.

During the tour, we will visit two traditional pottery workshops, where you can observe artisans crafting characteristic clay figurines. Next, we will make our way to a tapestry workshop, where you will see artisans utilizing traditional looms and learn about the production of tapestries, embroideries, and belts made from natural fibers.

After exploring the artisan workshops, a delicious typical Peruvian Creole lunch awaits you, featuring a two-course meal and a drink. For the starter, you can opt for salad, potatoes, or beans with corn, followed by a main dish of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.

Once lunch is concluded, we will head back to Callao, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
