Ayacucho Artisan Tour
We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in Callao to go to Lurin Valley, a district in the province of Lima. We will cross Pantanos de la Villa, a wetland area home to migratory birds, then begin the artisan tour focused on Lurin's demographics, including the migration from Ayacucho due to terrorism in the 80s.
Ayacucho is recognized for its varied expressions of popular art, considered the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. Immigrants brought ancestral techniques to Lurin Valley, further shaping Ayacucho's handicraft identity.
During the tour, we will visit two traditional pottery workshops where artisans create typical clay figurines. Next, we will explore a tapestry workshop to observe artisans working on traditional looms and learn about the production of tapestries, embroideries, and belts made with natural fibers.
Following the workshops, we will have a typical Peruvian Creole lunch that includes two courses and a drink. Options for the starter include salad, potatoes, or beans with corn, while main courses consist of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.
After lunch, we will return to Callao and drop you off at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
