Ayacucho Artisan Tour
You'll explore the folk art culture of Ayacucho and the Lurin Valley and observe artisans at work in their workshops. Pickup starts at 8 am from your hotel in Callao to head to Lurin Valley, a district in the province of Lima.
On the way, we will cross Pantanos de la Villa, a wetland area habitat for migratory birds. The tour begins with an overview of Lurin's demographics; a significant portion of its population relocated from Ayacucho due to terrorism in the 1980s.
Ayacucho is recognized for its diverse expressions of popular art, known as the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. Immigrants brought traditional techniques to the Lurin Valley, enhancing the region's craftsmanship.
The tour includes visits to two traditional pottery workshops, where artisans create typical clay figurines. Subsequently, we will visit a tapestry workshop to observe artisans working on traditional looms and learn about the production of tapestries, embroideries, and belts using natural fibers.
After exploring the workshops, a typical Peruvian Creole lunch is included, featuring two courses and a drink. Options for the starter include salad, potatoes, or beans with corn, and for the main course, you can choose rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.
Following lunch, we will return to Callao, concluding the tour with a drop-off at your hotel at 3:30 pm.
