Ayacucho Artisan Tour
Pickup will be at 8 am at your hotel in Callao to proceed to the Lurin Valley, located in the province of Lima.
Travel will involve crossing Pantanos de la Villa, a wetland area with migratory birds. The artisan tour begins with an overview of Lurin’s demographics, noting that many residents relocated from Ayacucho due to terrorism in the 1980s.
Ayacucho is recognized for its expressions of popular art, making it the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. The techniques brought by immigrants have established Lurin Valley as a key location for Ayacucho handicrafts.
Two traditional pottery workshops will be visited, where you will observe artisans crafting typical clay figurines. Following this, a tapestry workshop visit will showcase the production of tapestries, embroidery, and belts made from natural fibers.
A typical Peruvian Creole lunch will be served, consisting of two courses and a drink. Options include a starter of salad, potatoes, or beans with corn, and a main course of rice with chicken, aji de gallina, or beans with meat.
After lunch, the return to Callao will conclude with drop-off at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
