On this private tour of Caltagirone, we will explore the city known for its ceramic creations and Baroque and Art Nouveau monuments.
Description
We'll meet at the indicated time at the entrance of Caltagirone's Public Garden. This garden features Art Nouveau elements, including an Arab-style stage and the Belvedere Theater.
The tour will lead us past the Museo della Ceramica along Caltagirone's main street to its historic heart, where the Tondo Vecchio serves as a venue for open-air performances.
Next, we'll cross the San Francesco Bridge with its five arches and ceramic vases by local artisans. This structure was built in the 17th century, linking two hills on which the town sits.
Wandering through Caltagirone, we'll appreciate its Baroque and Art Nouveau churches and palaces, ending at the Cathedral of San Giuliano, notable for its 48-meter bell tower and a majolica dome, adorned with frescoes illustrating Old Testament scenes.
Nearby is the Piazza del Municipio, surrounded by the neoclassical Palazzo dell'Aquila and the former Palazzo Senatorio, now the Luigi Sturzo Gallery.
The tour concludes at the Santa Maria del Monte staircase, built in the 17th century. This staircase, with colorful ceramic tiles across its 142 steps, is a focal point during celebrations like the Infiorata and the Patron Saint festival, when it is illuminated by 4,000 candles.
We will complete the private tour of Caltagirone two hours after the start.
