Why Visit the Bell Museum?
Located in the heart of Canela, the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, also known as the Cathedral of Stone, was chosen as one of the Seven Wonders of Brazil in 2010. Inside this church, you can find the Bell Museum. Your visit will begin inside the Cathedral of Stone's tower, where you'll reach the museum after climbing 100 stairs. The first bell of the museum reaches an E flat note and weighs 2138 pounds (970 kilos), while the second bell plays an F note and weighs 1499 pounds (680 kilos).
Inside the museum, you'll also see the Carrilhão da Independência, formed by 12 bronze bells that weigh around 4 tons. This ticket allows you to learn about the church's history and its founder, the canon João Marchesi, along with various altorrelieve pieces showcasing the region's traditions and religiousness.
The visit also offers the opportunity to enjoy scenic views of Canela from the church's side balconies. Don't forget your camera!
