This private guided tour of the Archaeological Park of Paestum offers an exploration of ancient temples recognized as World Heritage Sites.
Paestum Archeological Park Private Tour
At the chosen time, we will meet at the Archaeological Park of Paestum to start the tour of this significant site in southern Italy, once known as Magna Grecia in the Classical Age.
The guided tour will commence with an overview of its Greek origins and subsequent Roman conquest. Information on how natural events, like the overflowing of the Salso River, led to the city's abandonment will also be provided.
We will first visit the temple of Hera, the oldest structure on site, originating in the 6th century BC. Nearby, the temple of Poseidon, the largest temple in Paestum, will be highlighted. Following this, we will explore the sanctuary of Athena, noted for the Christian tombs discovered there as it served as a church later on.
The guided tour will then proceed along the Via Sacra toward the forum and the Roman amphitheater of Paestum. To conclude the tour, we will visit the National Archaeological Museum to view original artifacts from the site, including the notable Tomb of the Swimmer.
After a two-hour tour, the guided experience will conclude; if desired, participants can continue their exploration independently.
