Paestum Archeological Park Private Tour
At the selected time, we'll meet at the Archaeological Park of Paestum to begin a tour of this important site in southern Italy, known as Magna Grecia in the Classical Age.
Our guided tour will start with a review of its Greek origins and its eventual conquest by the Romans, as well as the impact of the overflowing of the Salso River on the city's abandonment.
First, we'll visit the temple of Hera, the oldest on the site from the 6th century BC. Nearby is the temple of Poseidon, the largest temple in Paestum, which gives its name to the archaeological park. After admiring its Doric colonnades, we'll visit the sanctuary of Athena, notable for the Christian tombs found there as it also served as a church.
The guided tour will continue along the Via Sacra towards the forum and the Roman amphitheater of Paestum. As a final highlight, we will access the National Archaeological Museum to view original artifacts found at the site, including the significant Tomb of the Swimmer.
The tour lasts two hours, after which you may continue exploring at your own leisure if you wish.
