Pienzu Peak Hiking Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Alto del Fito viewpoint, located 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the center of Caravia. We'll set off on a path through pine forests as we begin our hike up to Pienzu Peak, the highest point along the coastal Sueve mountain range.
We'll start walking through the Asturian meadows enjoying views of the towns of Colunga and Caravia and their beaches. Don't forget your cameras!
The route will take us to El Bustacu, a place located 653 meters (2,150 feet) above sea level that serves as a shelter for shepherds and their livestock. From here, we'll begin the steeper part of the ascent to Pienzu peak. With a little luck, we'll see some of the wild Asturcones horses that live in this area.
We'll cross the Beluenzu pass and eventually reach the summit of Pienzu Peak. We'll be at 1160 meters (3,800 feet) above sea level, and the panoramic views of the coast and the Asturian mountains will be impressive. We'll even be able to see the Picos de Europa national park.
We'll take a break before beginning the descent. We'll finish the hike after a total of five hours, back at the starting point.
